I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer on a routine mammogram in 2003. I was 43 years old with no family history. The diagnosis came as a shock and my world turned upside down as I went through a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
The support I received from family and friends made an enormous difference in getting through my cancer journey, and I knew early on, that I wanted to help others going through a similar diagnosis. I have been volunteering as a patient navigator for years. It is still an honor each time a patient trusts me to be a part of their journey as they face their breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Breast cancer changed my life in ways I never imagined. New experiences, opportunities, and friendships have come my way as a result of my diagnosis. I’ve learned the importance of supporting others who are going through a challenging time.
