Individual Psychotherapy
A breast cancer diagnosis can have psychological symptoms as well as physical symptoms. These concerns may present before, during, and after treatment. Individual psychotherapy has proven efficacy for breast cancer patients.
These symptoms are normal and may vary according to individual needs. Some common reactions to a breast cancer diagnosis are as follows:
- Anxiety
- Depression (feeling angry, upset, and exhausted are normal reactions)
- Stress
- Grief
- Fear of reoccurrence
These symptoms are common and treatable with psychotherapy and an individual treatment plan. Benefits of psychotherapy include reduction in depression, anxiety, and improved coping skills. Additional benefits may include: processing emotions, managing family responses and relaxation techniques such as mindfulness.
